Botox and Fillers Q & A

What are fillers?

Fillers are injections that reduce wrinkles and fine lines on a temporary basis. They’re also used for giving lips a fuller appearance and filling in the skin that has recessed scars. There are several kinds of dermal fillers available, but Dr. Kevorkian can help you select the right one for your skin.

How do fillers work?

Fillers contain ingredients that stimulate collagen production or provide skin with nutrients for a healthier appearance. Some fillers have synthetic hyaluronic acid, while others have calcium hydroxylapatite for increased collagen production. Dr. Kevorkian can explain how specific fillers work to help you determine which one would work best for you.

What is Botox?

Botox injections target specific parts of your face to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet and frown lines. These injections have a refined version of bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum, which reduces activity in targeted facial muscles. This helps minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

How does Botox work?

The refined bacterium in Botox slows down muscle activity on a temporary basis. Since muscle activity causes fine lines to form, this reduced activity helps smooth out these lines. This effect isn’t permanent, but it does lead to more youthful-looking skin for a certain amount of time.

Do Botox and fillers hurt?

You might experience slight discomfort when you have Botox injections or dermal filler injections. However, these shouldn’t cause you any significant pain. Botox and filler injections might cause soreness afterward, but this is usually mild.

How many injections do I need?

It depends on the type of treatment you’re having and how severe your fine lines and wrinkles are. Dr. Kevorkian lets you know roughly how many treatments you’ll need and how often you should have them done. Keep in mind that more severe fine lines and wrinkles might need more treatments.

How long do results last?

Botox and fillers only last temporarily, but the exact amount of time the results last varies. Botox, for example, generally lasts for about four months. Dr. Kevorkian will let you know how long your results should last for.
